Recently, Joe Rogan opened up about his ongoing commitment to enhancing fighter safety within the UFC. Known for his passionate advocacy, he shared an intriguing story on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, detailing his attempt to persuade UFC officials to implement a crucial rule change designed to protect fighters. Unfortunately, his suggestions were not taken seriously.

Rogan’s connection to the UFC dates back to 1997, when he first took on the role of a ringside and backstage reporter, eventually evolving into his current position as a color commentator. His deep-rooted support for the sport is evident, and during a recent podcast episode with UFC lightweight Jiri Prochazka, he recounted how he reached out to the super-agent and CEO of Endeavour, the company that owns the UFC, advocating for the elimination of weight cutting practices when they took over the promotion in 2016.

His proposal aimed to enhance the safety of fighters, suggesting that random weight checks be introduced to deter dangerous weight-cutting habits before fights. Rogan also called for the establishment of additional weight classes to minimize the disparities between fighters’ weights, ultimately leading to fairer matchups.

Among his recommendations was the idea of introducing weight classes spaced every 10 pounds, allowing fighters to compete against opponents that more closely match their natural weight. Rogan strongly believes that it is vital for fighters to compete at healthy weights, rather than engaging in extreme weight-cutting practices that can jeopardize their well-being.

Despite Rogan’s passionate advocacy for these changes, the UFC has yet to take any significant steps in response to his suggestions. Nevertheless, his unwavering commitment to fostering safer competition and promoting the welfare of fighters continues to shine through.
