Tragic Update on Former England Rugby Player Tom Voyce
Heartbreaking news has surfaced regarding former England rugby star Tom Voyce, who went missing after being swept away while trying to navigate a flooded river. Search teams, including specialist officers, have tragically located a body near the area where Voyce was last seen. Concerns began when the 43-year-old failed to return home following a night out with friends, leading to the discovery of his Toyota Hilux further downstream from Abberwick Ford on the River Aln in Northumberland.
Authorities suspect that Voyce became trapped in the river while attempting to escape his vehicle during Storm Darragh, which brought significant rainfall and elevated water levels over the weekend. A comprehensive search operation, involving multiple agencies and dedicated volunteers, was initiated to find the missing rugby player, with his family and friends actively participating in the search efforts.
Sadly, on Thursday, officers from the marine unit of Northumbria Police made the somber discovery in the river close to Abberwick Mill. While formal identification is still underway, Voyce’s family has been notified and is currently receiving support from specialized officers. The police do not suspect any foul play in this incident, and a report is being prepared for the coroner’s review.
