Trump Says No Right of Return for Palestinians in Gaza Under His Plan – Casson Living – World News, Breaking News, International News

Trump’s Polarizing Proposal for Gaza Sparks Controversy

President Donald Trump has recently stirred debate with his assertion that Palestinians in Gaza would not be allowed to return under his new proposal. This position stands in stark contrast to earlier comments from other officials in his administration who had indicated that his plan might involve a temporary relocation of the residents.

During an interview with FOX News’ Bret Baier that aired on Monday, Trump was questioned about the potential return of Palestinians to Gaza. He responded emphatically, stating, “No, they wouldn’t,” shortly after suggesting that the U.S. could take control of Gaza and develop it into “the Riviera of the Middle East.” His remarks come as he increases pressure on neighboring Arab nations, especially allies like Jordan and Egypt, to host Palestinians from Gaza, who see the territory as their rightful homeland.

“We’ll create safe communities, a little distance from the current danger zones,” Trump elaborated. “In the meantime, I would take ownership of this area. Think of it as a real estate venture for the future. It has great potential without requiring huge investments.”

This proposal has drawn substantial criticism from various Arab nations. Trump’s comments were made public just ahead of his scheduled meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan at the White House. Both Egypt and Jordan have voiced worries about how this plan might affect the longstanding objective of achieving a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict, as well as the security implications of accepting large numbers of refugees, even temporarily.

Trump’s remarks could further complicate the delicate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which has been in place for 15 months, especially as ongoing negotiations stress the necessity for significant humanitarian aid and rebuilding efforts in Gaza.

After Trump’s initial statements, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Secretary of State Marco Rubio sought to clarify that the plan intended to temporarily relocate Palestinians from Gaza for an “interim” period to facilitate cleanup, disposal of unexploded ordnance, and reconstruction.

In a noteworthy development last week, Trump did not rule out the possibility of deploying U.S. troops to help secure the region but stressed that no American funds would be directed towards Gaza’s reconstruction, raising critical questions about the feasibility of his proposal.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty remarked that there is a “consensus among Arab nations” against the relocation of Palestinians, as Trump continues to push for their movement out of Gaza.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of reaching a political resolution to the Palestinian issue, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, as stated in a release from the Egyptian foreign ministry.

A senior official from Hamas condemned Trump’s recent statements regarding U.S. ownership of Gaza, branding them as “absurd.”

Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, claimed that these comments illustrate a significant misunderstanding of the Palestinian plight and the regional dynamics.

In a statement released by Hamas on Monday, he asserted that Trump’s approach to the Palestinian issue is destined to fail. “Approaching the Palestinian cause as if it were a real estate transaction is a guaranteed route to disaster,” he stated. “Our Palestinian people will resist any attempts at transfer and deportation.”
